Update

shelves

Greetings from your local library, a branch of the Albany County Public Library (ACPL), supported by volunteers and the non-profit CLCA who owns and takes care of the building. This month we want to thank our ACPL librarian for setting up a New Book Display. Come check it out! New books will continue arriving over the next few months and we will share a list when we have it.

Welcome Returning Board Member! Maira Wentworth has re-joined the board and also come back as a substitute volunteer – thank you Maira! Note: we are still looking for a regular volunteer for Thursdays from 1-4, or every other Thursday if possible. Please consider it if you have the time and interest.

We still have a wide variety of garden vegetable and herb seeds available from the ACPL Seed Bank project, no charge. Stop by and check it out. We also have several free jigsaw puzzles available.

Hours M-F 11-3, phone: 307-745-8393

A note on donated books: books donated to the Centennial Library go into the ongoing book sale, which is a fabulous library in itself, and an important fund raiser. If you wish to donate a book to go on the circulation shelf, this must go through the main ACPL office. Talk to our Monday librarian to learn more. Email: clca@centenniallibrary.net

Update

Happy New Year Centennial Valley Friends and residents! The CLCA Board wishes you a happy and prosperous 2025. We are continuing to meet monthly over the winter to work on important items like building use policy, budget, membership, and programs for 2025. We meet on the first Monday of every month at 4PM in the Library meeting room. The public is welcome to attend.

Christmas in Centennial was a huge success (thank you Polly and Ken) and we raised over $350 from the holiday book sale (thank you June Huss, Judy Huss, and Jan Alvaney). As usual, we continue to accept your high quality used books to put in our ongoing fund-raising book sale.

Our professional librarian, Jeff Bell is doing a great job keeping the library side running with his weekly presence on Mondays and his volunteer coordination for Tuesdays through Fridays. Jeff and the volunteers continually collect data so we can gauge how the Library is serving you.

Our 2024 numbers were strong, with 1087 total visitors during daily operations. Those visitors brought us 56 recorded reference questions, 218 recoded uses of technology services (computers, printer, and internet.) Thank you Jeff for the summary.

June Huss Picture

June is originally from Minnesota and moved to Centennial in 2007 from Florida, after she retired from the medical equipment industry. She has been managing the Centennial Library Book Sale for the CLCA since 2010 and has been on the CLCA Board off and on since then. June spends several hours every week meticulously culling, sorting and managing the donated books we receive. The Book Sale is one of the CLCA’s most important ongoing fund raisers and June is the tireless engine behind it. Thank you June!

Vounteer Spotlight: Ken and Polly Costello

Ken and Polly Picture

Ken and Polly Costello have served as a vital part of the CLCA volunteer work force since they moved to the valley full time in 2009. They are regular weekly volunteers at the front desk and work diligently behind the scenes on Library building maintenance and general upkeep, inside and outside, including decorating for Christmas in Centennial. Prior to retirement, Polly was a speech pathologist, and Ken had a career as an Air Force pilot, then a second career in the world of finance. Since moving to the valley, they have been active in a variety of community service roles including Snowy Range Men’s Service Club, Centennial Social Club, the Centennial Valley Historical Association, the North Fork Owner’s Association and the Centennial Valley Volunteer Fire Department. They are currently co-chairs of Christmas in Centennial. Thank you Ken and Polly! Volunteers and donations keep the doors open and the lights on in the Centennial Library. October Update

Thursday Volunteer needed! The Library relies on Volunteers on Tuesday through Friday to be open. Individuals or couples typically pick a weekday to regularly sit behind the desk and conduct Library business. We are currently seeking someone to fill the Thursday spot. Contact the Volunteer coordinator, Jeff at centvols2023@gmail.com for more information. People can volunteer to substitute as well!

The Christmas in Centennial Book Sale will be held on Saturday December 14th as part of the Christmas in Centennial Celebration. We have a well-organized room full of high quality books donated by the community. Hardback books are $1 and paperbacks are 50 cents; DVDs and puzzles are also available. Sale proceeds go to support the CLCA’s physical operation of the library branch and its programs.

Garden Seed Packs from the Albany County Public Library Seed Library are still available at no charge at the library. Stop by and pick up a pack or two from 11 to 3, Monday Through Friday!
